COOCI Associates Take on the 3-Peaks for Positive Bones

Rehabilitation case management company take on the epic 3 peaks challenge - attempting the UK’s three highest peaks in just 24 hours!

Positive Bones were delighted when the COOCI team emailed asking if they could fundraise for Positive Bones, of course we said yes and were blown away by their efforts. The team managed to fundraise a whopping one thousand three hundred and six pounds, smashing their own target and supporting us as we continue to provide funding to those wiith Limb Loss, Limb Difference.

Lorraine, Kara, Tracey, Stuart and his partner trained hard to undertake the 3 Peaks Challenge, in aid of Positive Bones.

As part of their training Lorraine, Kara and Tracey took on the 14 mile walk from Dunstable Downs visitor centre to Ivinghoe Beacon, part of the Ridgeway. Meanwhile, Stuart and his partner equally impressed us by running up Scafell Pike.

Well, we are delighted to say they completed it. Not necessarily all intact… more to come on that later, but they did it nonetheless!

Not only did they complete it, but they also smashed their fundraising target before they even set off for Scotland on the Friday, full of optimism.

There’s no doubt that the team had trained hard and looked forward to the 3 Peaks Challenge, and it certainly had its peaks and troughs.

When they arrived at Ben Nevis, Stuart and his partner (who are real fitness and running athletes) took off in the elite group, whilst Lorraine, Kara and Tracey took a steadier approach.

As it turns out it was one of the hottest days of the year, (possibly even one of the hottest this century!) reaching around 35 degrees, which meant that hydration was key to ensuring they could continue safely, particularly when climbing their first peak; Ben Nevis, which was quite a challenge being the highest mountain.

Sadly, it became even more tricky when Lorraine re-activated a knee injury and Tracey sustained a nasty fall injuring her leg, although we are delighted to report they bravely managed to complete Ben Nevis. However, it did have a knock-on effect, as this slowed them down. This meant they could only get half-way up Scafell before they had to turn back to catch the mini-bus to Snowdonia.

Not much sleep, not much quality nutrition and too much heat meant the final peak was extremely tough going for this very courageous group, however, as a testament to their determination they carried on and they smashed it.

Though they were disappointed that they hadn’t quite touched the 3 Peaks as they’d hoped, they assure us the mountain views made it all worthwhile, in their words “they were incredible”.

As well as the fabulous amount they raised, many other positives also came out of their time out on the mountains. It really brought the team together, it shows how resilient they were, and how they supported and encouraged each other throughout each of the difficulties they faced through the whole challenge. It also helped the team reflect on how some of COOCI’s clients face even harder challenges with their rehabilitation every single day. Highlighting how important the care and support from COOCI and their partners really is.

All that remains to say is that we are immensely proud of them and all they achieved, congratulations and a thoroughly deserved well done to you all!

Thank you so much to Lorraine, Kara, Tracey, Stuart and his partner for taking on this epic challenge, as well as everyone who donated!

Your donations allow us to continue supporting the limb difference and limb loss community providing funding towards specialist equipment, services and prosthetics that support those with limb differences or limb loss in doing the things they love.
